Born in Toronto, Hoidge served in the Canadian Royal Garrison Artillery before transferring to the British Army in 1915. In 1916, he joined the Royal Flying Corps, where he distinguished himself as a flying ace, credited with a remarkable 28 aerial victories. With the creation of the Royal Air Force in 1918, Hoidge became a founding member. The vibrant colors and intricate brushstrokes bring the image to life, transporting us back to a pivotal moment in history. This portrait was published in the June 1918 issue of "William Newenham Montague Orpen's War Records," a prestigious British military magazine. Lieut.
