Brandon, of Berkeley-square, is of the Elizabethan style of architecture ; the materials are red brick, with stone facings. The front, adjoining the County Hall, consists of three archways - one for carriages, the other two for foot passengers - supported by ornamental pillars...Above the archways are two handsome rooms, separated by folding doors, and when thrown into one forming an assembly-room 44 ft. by 83 ft., with retiring rooms and other conveniences. The front contains a handsome bay-window, surmounted by an ornamental gable, with a space for a clock-face, and Elizabethan terminals...The building is 90 ft. by 45 ft...There is an office let with the wine cellars under the market, and a tap for the sale of beer or liquors'. Aylesbury's New Corn Exchange - A Symbol of Prosperity and Progress

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, taken in 1865, captures a momentous occasion - the grand opening of Aylesbury's new Corn Exchange and Market-hall. Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, The Right Honorable Lord Carington, presides over the ceremony as dignitaries and townspeople gather to celebrate this milestone event. The stunning building, designed by Mr. D. Brandon in an Elizabethan style, rises from the old Market Square like a beacon of prosperity. Its red brick façade with stone facings is adorned with ornamental pillars supporting three archways - one for carriages and two for pedestrians. Above these entrances lie two spacious rooms that can be combined to form an impressive assembly room. As we gaze upon this scene, we are transported back in time to a era of growth and development. The new Corn Exchange was not only a hub of commercial activity but also a symbol of the town's progress and prosperity. With its grand architecture, elegant bay-window, and ornamental gable featuring an Elizabethan-style clock face, this building is truly a masterpiece. This photograph offers us a glimpse into Aylesbury's rich history as we marvel at the beauty and significance of this iconic landmark.
